HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN THE INDUSTRY, AND WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE THIS PATh?
I didn’t know what I wanted to study until I was in college. I took general studies which included the Introduction of Accounting & Finance, and that’s when I realized that I wanted to study more in that department.
What advice do you have for women starting their careers?
Having confidence in yourself is key. Starting a career can be somewhat scary and intimidating, but it’s also an exciting new chapter in life. Learn as much as you can, ask questions constantly, take control, and seek out opportunities. Also, be positive! Even in difficult situations at work, having a positive attitude will boost your energy and promote a good work environment.
What advice do you have for those that may be experiencing a setback?
It’s okay to be experiencing a setback. There is no need to feel rushed or discouraged because other people seem to know exactly where they are going with their life, and you don’t. Everyone is running their own race and in their own time. So, relax and enjoy wandering.
What inspires you?
My mother. After moving to America, she raised three of us all by herself and worked hard selflessly to support the family. Even with very limited English and in a different culture, she managed through everything and kept our lives going. She also provided constant encouragement and wisdom, especially at the most challenging times. I didn’t think that I could ever relate to her choices until I became a parent a few years ago. Her strong work ethic and mindset really came from her love for her family, and I promised myself that I would try to be just as wise, supporting, and loving of a mother to my son as my mother was to me and my siblings.
