Serving our community and citizens has been a part of the LSi culture since inception. LSi is proud of its commitment and service, whether it is giving back through time or money, community outreach is one of LSi's top priorities. LSi encourages its employees to get involved and pursues a new cause to help promote and support each month.

Diplomatic Security Foundation

About the Organization:

Picture of The Diplomatic Security Foundation (DSF) is a charitable, non-profit organization dedicated to providing financial support to assist members of the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service and other colleagues in the law enforcement and foreign affairs communities.

The funds raised by DSF go to support various assistance donations and programs such as survivor payments to families of DS personnel, contributions to local police officers/families in the event of death or illness, and a scholarship program for college students. The DSF raises funds through corporate contributions, individual donations and special events.

LSi is a DSF Charter Member. The Charter Member Program was created to provide opportunities to private companies to partner with DSF and continue support on an annual basis. The program makes it possible for DSF to provide instant assistance as needed. LSi also sponsors various fundraising events throughout the year.

Muscular Dystrophy Association

About the Organization:

The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is a nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy and related diseases. Muscular dystrophy is a genetic inherited disorder of the muscles that causes progressive weakness caused by the degeneration of muscle fibers.

MDA supports research on neuromuscular diseases and also offers a comprehensive services program that includes diagnostic and follow-up medical consultations, support groups, summer camps for young children and a medical equipment loan program. Charitable donations make it possible for the MDA to continue its research efforts and nationwide programs to help those with neuromuscular diseases and their families.

LSi participated in the Reston-Herndon Lock – Up Fundraiser and helped collect donations for the association. The donations from this event helped the MDA send kids in the Reston-Herndon area to MDA summer camp and also provide additional support and outreach services to individuals and families through support groups, school advocacy and community health education efforts. The Reston-Herndon community was able to raise over $33,000.

Shriners Hospital for Children

About the Organization:

Picture of Shriners HospitalThe Shriners Hospitals for Children is a health care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing specialty pediatric care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs. The hospitals provide care to thousands of children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palete with no financial obligation to patients or families.

The Shriners Hospitals for Children is dedicated to conducting innovative research to provide answers for complex medical difficulties affecting children. The hospital also fosters an academic environment of residency education and postgraduate fellowships and ensures high quality medical care is given to all patients.

In 2009, LSi contributed over $15,000 to the Shriners Hospitals for Children through corporate giving as well as participating in the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, where all proceeds benefited the hospitals directly.

LSi Reston Interfaith Donation Drive

About the Organization:

Picture of Interfaith DonationReston Interfaith is a leading service provider offering comprehensive programs for 13,000 people in Reston, Herndon and Fairfax County. Reston Interfaith works with and for those affected by poverty or who struggle with accessing the tools to reach self-sufficiency.

The organization runs the Laurel Learning Center, which provides family services and development child care programs. The center offers full time child care, before and after school programs and summer programming. Reston Interfaith also runs the Embry Rucker Community Shelter that provides healthy, safe, emergency housing for families and single men and women, helping them overcome barriers and transition to stable housing.

This past February, LSi partnered with Reston Interfaith and held a donation drive for items needed at the learning center and community shelter. We asked all the businesses in our Reston Corner office building to participate and help support the cause. The items collected were used to form “kits” of much needed items/supplies to be distributed to the two locations. Examples of some of the items collected were soap, laundry detergent, shampoo, toothpaste, children’s socks and underwear etc. The items were collected throughout the month and LSi had successfully collected over $500 worth of donations.

March of Dimes

About the Organization:

Picture of March of Babies FinishThe March of Dimes is a health charity whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. The March of Dimes funds research in developmental biology, genetics, pediatrics and many other fields. The organization supports neonatal intensive care units, drug treatments, and folic acid education among other causes.

There are many ways to support the March of Dimes. There are opportunities to fundraise through local events such as the March for Babies, educate others through spreading the word to public officials and educational activities, or volunteering at a chapter office.

This past April, the LSi team participated in the March for Babies held at the Reston Town Center. The LSi team worked hard to raise funds and each member of the team, including family members they brought along, walked 4.5 miles. Nearly half a million Americans are expected to walk this year all over the country. Last year, the March for Babies raised more than 2.5 million in the Washington metro area.

1600 Communications Association

About the Organization:

The 1600 Communication Association was established to provide a fraternal and social organization for the members of the White House Army Signal Agency. Over the years, the Association expanded to include the members of the White House Communication Agency. The Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to the professional development of its members.

The 1600 Communications Association provides a scholarship program for members and their families, donations raised at annual events are contributed to provide support to service members and their families.

LSi gives charitable funds to the association and also sponsors events where the proceeds go to the Scholarship Fund and support wounded troops in a number of ways. Last year, LSi’s donations and sponsorships helped make significant contributions to the Homes for Our Troops Organization and to the Fisher House Foundation at Walter Reed Army Hospital and Andrews Air Force Base as well as $11,000 in scholarships to family members of the Association.
